In the shooting, three officers were shot, and Wallin was the one who lost his life in the incident. Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes were the other two officers who were injured.

Jake Wallin death cause has been linked to Fargo Shooting that happened on July 14, 2023. The shooting occurred near 9th Avenue South and 25th Street South in Fargo.
A suspect named Mohamad Barakat killed Wallin and injured three other people, two police officers and a bystander. After that, the suspect, Barakat, was shot at the scene by Officer Zachary Robinson.
Immediately, Barakat was transported from the scene to a healthcare facility, where he was pronounced dead. Multiple witnesses said a man opened fire on the police officers before others shot him.

He became an FPD Officer on April 19, 2023. On that day, he was sworn into law enforcement by Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski, and his badge was pinned onto him by his dad, Jeff. Jake was in field training with the FPD at the time of his death.
