Yellowstone's Luke Grimes looks rugged in jeans and cowboy boots as he arrives at Today Show

Luke Grimes didn't stray far from the look of his Yellowstone character Kayce Dutton when he made an appearance at the Today Show in New York City on Thursday.

The 38-year-old actor rocked a rugged look featuring a charcoal corduroy shirt and weathered brown cowboy boots.

Grimes was on hand to chat about his hit Paramount Network series Yellowstone, on which he plays the youngest son of Kevin Costner's patriarch John Dutton III.

He dressed down his low-key outfit with a simple white T-shirt, and he stayed casual with a set of dark jeans.

Luke showed off a wide grin as he stepped up to the studio while sporting shaggy, swept-back hair and a thick beard. 

He appeared to be doing some thematically appropriate reading, as he held a cookbook with recipes for the Big Green Egg grill in his hand as he walked into the building.

During his appearance on the Today Show, Luke admitted that he wasn't among the many people staying up to date on all the drama on Yellowstone.

The co-host Craig Melvin accidentally called the actor by his character's name as he asked if he was keeping up with the show as its popularity skyrocketed.

Luke admitted that he didn't watch the show, but he clarified that it was 'not because I don't want to, or I'm too cool to watch the show.'

He explained that he tries to keep his distance out of fears that watching might 'affect my work since we're still doing it.'

When Craig asked for some clarification, Luke explained that he doesn't enjoy watching himself on screen, and he has a tendency to get in his 'head' or to be 'judgy' about his performance, so he prefers to stay distant.

However, he added that he planned to catch up on the whole show whenever it was finished.

'I'll do that later,' he added.

'She came up [to Montana] with me for work one year and just sort of fell in love with it,' he shared, adding that it seemed more pleasing than their previous home of Texas. 

Grimes, who is also a musician, said that it was 'amazing' when the show used his newest single in its mid-season finale, though Melvin joked that he wouldn't have actually seen it in the show.

The single, a country love song inspired by his wife, got a thumbs up from her.
